Coco Gauff vs Jessica Pegula prediction

Coco Gauff reached her third WTA 1000 final of the campaign after a comfortable win over Sara Bejlek at the Cincinnati Open. Bejlek had beaten four seeded players, including world number one Aryna Sabalenka, on her way to the last four, but she ran out of steam in this match as Gauff broke on seven separate occasions to win 6-4 6-1. Gauff will be looking to add a second Cincinnati title, having won the event three years ago as a teenager.

She will face compatriot Jessica Pegula, as the 32-year-old advanced to a second final at the event after ending Iga Swiatek’s defence in the semi-finals. Swiatek was on a 10-match unbeaten run, having won the Canadian Open in her last event, but Pegula showed all of her fighting qualities to win 7-5 4-6 6-4.

Pegula leads the head-to-head 5-4 and 3-1 on outdoor hard court. Gauff did win their last encounter at the quarter-final stage of Wimbledon this year, coming from a set down to win. Pegula’s consistency makes her a dangerous opponent for Gauff, but the latter has looked the fresher of the two.

Gauff has gone close to winning a WTA 1000 title this year without quite getting over the line, despite showing impressive consistency. Her season feels due a significant title, and this could be the perfect opportunity to claim one.
