A former CONCACAF Gold Cup Golden Boot winner who was named CONCACAF Men’s Player of the Year in 2025, David has long established himself as a perennial scorer for club and country, having struck over 100 goals for French side Lille prior to joining Italian giants Juventus.
The most notable star name within the Canada squad however, remains Alphonso Davies (Bayern Munich), who is set to lead Les Rouges for the second consecutive World Cup. A key figure at Bayern Munich since his arrival from Vancouver Whitecaps in 2019, the four-time Canadian Men’s Player of the Year has won the UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, two DFB Pokals and seven Bundesliga titles whilst at the Rekordmeister.
Also worthy of attention is midfielder Stephen Eustaquio (LAFC), a Primeira Liga and three-time Taca de Portugal winner with parent club FC Porto. His energy and creativity in midfield will be important to Jesse Marsch’s plans.

Expert prediction for Canada’s chances at FIFA World Cup 2026
This is a once in a generation opportunity for Canadian football and with home advantage through the group stage at least, Jesse Marsch and his squad will likely come flying out of the traps. In 2022, Canada were dealt an extremely tough group that included Croatia, Belgium and semi-finalists Morocco. At FIFA World Cup 2026, their group stage opposition shouldn’t prove as strong.
In Jonathan David, Canada have a goalscorer at the highest level, whilst Ali Ahmed has the potential to be one of the breakout stars of the tournament when considering his pace, skill and shooting ability from out wide. Alphonso Davies remains of the top wing-backs in the world and combined with Marsch’s high-voltage style of play, which includes sharp offensive transitions and a heavy press off the ball, Canada are set up for group stage success when considering the likelihood of three teams of four going through.
However, this squad more than likely doesn’t have the quality or strength in depth to advance further and it would be a big upset if Canada were to end up winning a knockout stage fixture.
What round will Canada reach at FIFA World Cup 2026? Round of 32
