The prediction

The Lions once again showcased their premiership credentials with a commanding 33-point victory over Hawthorn at the MCG in Round 11. Dispelling myths about their ability in Melbourne and putting their surprise loss to the Demons behind them.

Essendon also enjoyed Round 11 success, defeating Richmond by 23 points in the Dreamtime at the 'G clash, moving them to just outside the top eight on percentage. They are yet to record a win against a side in the eight and that moniker will continue to go with them until they change the narrative with a big scalp.

Essendon will look to their inspirational captain Zach Merrett to lead the charge. Against the Tigers, Merrett gathered 37 disposals and his midfield battle against the Lions engine room will be critical to determining the outcome.

The Lions have had the better of Essendon in recent times, including a 20-point victory last year. They have won five of the past six matchups.
