33-year-old 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Josh Taylor has fought 20 times in his professional boxing career with 19 victories and one loss so far, which came last time out by unanimous decision against Teofimo Lopez. Jack Catterall, nicknamed ‘El Gato’, has fought 29 times in contrast with 28 wins, 13 by knockout, and a defeat, which came against Taylor back in 2022 at the Hydro in Glasgow. Taylor came out on top in the clash between these two a couple of years ago with a split decision victory up in Scotland. This fight was originally scheduled for March but has been pushed back as a result of a ‘minor eye procedure’ for Taylor. It was an extremely controversial victory for Taylor back in Glasgow and the Scotsman has not looked impressive since, especially in defeat to the ageing Teofimo Lopez. Backing Catterall looks a good bet for this one in Leeds.
