AFC Bournemouth will be aiming to get themselves into European competition this season as the Cherries now welcome Newcastle United down to the south coast.

Bournemouth preview: Intense Cherries

After collapsing away from the top seven and the European spots last season, AFC Bournemouth have lost several key players but manager Andoni Iraola has remained and the Cherries will once again be trying to push with their intense style of play.

They have started their campaign with three victories from their opening four matches. They come into this one on the back of a hard-fought 2-1 defeat of south coast rivals Brighton and Hove Albion at the Vitality Stadium last weekend.

Newcastle preview: Frustrated Magpies

Newcastle United come into this one on the back of a 2-1 loss at home to Barcelona to kick off their league phase campaign in the UEFA Champions League. Marcus Rashford notched a brace for the Blaugrana before Anthony Gordon scored a consolation.

That defeat does now mean that Newcastle have won just one of their opening five matches across all competitions, with that coming by a goal to nil against Wolverhampton Wanderers last week, courtesy of a Nick Woltemade winner.

Bournemouth team news: Christie available

It has been confirmed that Scotland international midfielder Ryan Christie has returned to full fitness for this weekend, having missed out in their clash against Brighton last weekend.

Summer signing Bafode Diakite joined Bournemouth for a hefty fee last month, but the former Lille centre-back remains not yet 100% fit, despite returning to training this week.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Petrovic; Hill, Milosavljevic, Senesi, Truffert; Adams, Scott; Semenyo, Tavernier, Brooks; Evanilson

Unavailable: Smith (Injured), Unal (Injured)

Questionable: Diakite (Fitness)

Newcastle team news: Defensive doubts

Eddie Howe did not provide an update on defensive duo Kieran Trippier and Fabian Schar, who were both forced off against Barcelona, with the latter seemingly suffering from concussion.

It is known, though, that summer signings Jacob Ramsey and Yoane Wissa will be sidelined through injury until after the October international break for the visitors.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Pope; Livramento, Botman, Burn, Hall; Guimaraes, Tonali, Joelinton; Murphy, Woltemade, Gordon

Unavailable: Ramsey (Injured), Wissa (Injured)

Questionable: Schar (Concussion), Trippier (Injured)

Bournemouth vs Newcastle prediction

Eddie Howe is returning to Bournemouth with a Newcastle side that could really do with avoiding a defeat this weekend, having started the season quite slowly amid the debacle over the Alexande Isak saga. Bournemouth are an excellent team that play brilliant football with a wonderful coach. They will get on the front foot, and the visitors should find openings on the counter-attack, with a good watch for the neutral to be expected.

Bournemouth vs Newcastle tip: Both teams to score
