Boreham Wood vs Rochdale prediction

The play-off final for the National League is upon us and it is Boreham Wood and Rochdale battling it out for a much-prized place in the EFL.

Boreham Wood do not have far to travel to get to Wembley and the team that finished fourth-place during the regular season will come into this final with plenty of confidence. They had to get past Robbie Savage’s Forest Green Rovers and Mark Hughes’ Carlisle in the play-offs so far, no easy feat.

Both matches were incredibly hard-fought but Luke Garrard’s men won both by a single goal, and there is every chance that this final will be equally as close.

Rochdale have been one of the two standout sides in the National League this season along with York City, who were promoted in the one automatic spot in dramatic circumstances. That last-gasp goal for York stunned Rochdale but they have done well to lift themselves and get past Scunthorpe last weekend.

Rochdale comfortably had the upper hand in both meetings during the season winning 2-0 and 4-1, so Boreham Wood have to find a way to close the gap somehow.

That will not be easy on the big pitch at Wembley against such a good passing team like Rochdale. That said, Boreham Wood possess some outstanding athletes in their ranks and a couple of wingers in Abdul Abdulmalik and Leony Ayinde who can cause any team troubles when they get time and space.

In fact, the left side of their attack in Abdulmalik against the right-side of Rochdale’s defence in Kyron Gordon could well decide the match. Both players are destined for bigger things regardless of the outcome of this final.

It is hard to see past Rochdale in this one but Boreham Wood will relish being underdogs and all the pressure really is on Jimmy McNulty’s team. This could be cagey for a good spell of the match with plenty of nerves but it should open up into an entertaining and open contest. For that reason, we like both teams to score in this one and we would lean with Rochdale if pushed on the winner.
