Beatriz Haddad Maia recovered from going a break down early on in both sets to beat Rebecca Sramkova 7-6 6-4 and book a place into the second-round of Wimbledon. The Brazilian was strong at the net and won 70% of her first serve points. The Brazilian struggled during the earlier part of the season but is coming off the back of a quarter-final appearance at the Bad Homburg Open and will fancy her chances of reaching the second week at the Championships.

Dalma Galfi will be her opponent in the next round as she edged out Great Britain’s Harriet Dart in a close three set match to make round two of the tournament for the fourth year in succession. The pair exchanged breaks in the decider, but it was the Hungarian that came out on top overall.
