THE TEAM NEWS

MILWAUKEE BREWERS

  • The Brewers have been one of the hottest teams in the National League over the past few weeks, and that allowed them to clinch a playoff spot following Wednesday’s win over Cincinnati, and the Chicago Cubs’ loss against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Brewers are 5-0 in their last five games, and 9-1 in their last 10 MLB outings.
  • The Brewers obviously have NL MVP candidate Christian Yelich out for the reminder of the year alongside Corey Knebel and Bobby Wahl. Ryan Braun is one player to watch for Milwaukee, as he belted a grand slam on Wednesday and has four home runs in his last 10 starts.
  • Chase Anderson will get the start for the Brewers. The right-hander has looked very good in September where he owns a 2.50 ERA and a .185 opponents’ batting average, making a case to get a starting job during the postseason. He is 7-4 with a 4.30 ERA and 122 strikeouts in the season.

CINCINNATI REDS

  • The Reds have been playing poorly of late, and they own a 1-4 mark over their last five MLB games. They also are 4-6 over their last 10 games, a stat that shouldn’t surprise anyone given the fact that they have absolutely nothing to play for.
  • The Reds have Freddy Galvis out, while Michael Lorenzen, Robert Stephenson and Alex Wood remain day-to-day for Cincinnati. Jesse Winker and Derek Dietrich might return later this week. One player to watch for the Reds is Eugenio Suarez, who has hit 48 home runs with 102 RBI in 2019.
  • Luis Castillo will get the ball for the Reds, and the right-hander has been one of the top arms in the National League during the 2019 season. He is 15-7 with a 3.25 ERA and 218 strikeouts in 2019, and he could easily be among the Top 10 in the NL Cy Young voting once the season comes to an end.

THE PREDICTION

The Brewers have already clinched a postseason berth, while the Reds have been eliminated from contention for quite a while. This game might not mean much for Cincinnati, but Milwaukee are playing for home-field advantage in the Wild Card game against the Washington Nationals. With that in mind, Milwaukee should be considered the odds-on favourite simply because they have something meaningful to play for, unlike their opponents.
