Ashlyn Krueger only makes the main draw as a lucky loser after losing to Katerina Siniakova in the final round of qualifying. She did manage to get out of the qualifying stage for the German Open last week but lost in the first-round to former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina.
Beatriz Haddad Maia entered the Nottingham Open as the top seed but fell to a surprise defeat in the first-round as she lost to McCartney Kessler with the American going on to win the tournament. She did fare better in the doubles as she picked up the title with her partner Laura Siegemund. The only win for the Brazilian so far on grass in the singles came in the first-round of Queen’s as she came from a set down to beat the retiring Petra Kvitova.
Their only match against each other occurred just last month as Haddad Maia defeated Krueger in the second-round of the Strasbourg Open on the eve of Roland Garros. The Brazilian may have a tougher time of it on grass, but she should still have enough to get through.
