Arsenal have put themselves in a position whereby a trophyless season may well again beckon after being in an excellent spot to win the quadruple.

Arsenal preview: Collapsing in April

Arsenal were better last weekend but, as ever, they came up short in the crunch game as they succumbed to a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

The Gunners' defeat to their old foes means that they have now managed just one victory in their last six matches across all competitions; a run consisting of an EFL Cup final loss to City as well as an FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Championship side Southampton.

Newcastle preview: Struggling Newcastle

Newcastle United may well be coming to the end of an era with Eddie Howe's side floundering in the bottom-half of the table, amid reports that the Saudi Public Investment Fund may be about to roll back on their sporting projects.

The Magpies were beaten 2-1 by AFC Bournemouth at St James' Park last weekend, extending their current losing streak to four matches, which began with a 7-2 defeat to Barcelona at Camp Nou last month.

Arsenal team news: Coming soon

Mikel Arteta has confirmed that both Riccardo Calafiori and Bukayo Saka will ‘probably’ feature this weekend, having both been previously expected to miss out again.

There is some bad news, though, as versatile Dutchman Jurrien Timber remains sidelined alongside longer-term absentee Mikel Merino for this one.

Predicted XI (4-3-3):Raya; White, Saliba, Gabriel, Hincapie; Rice, Zubimendi, Odegaard; Madueke, Havertz, Martinelli

Unavailable: Timber (Injured), Merino (Injured)

Questionable: Calafiori (Fitness), Saka (Injured)

Newcastle team news: Gordon out

Anthony Gordon has been linked with both Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in recent weeks and the England international winger remains sidelined through injury for the visitors.

His international teammate Tino Livramento is also sidelined with his season potentially over prematurely, while Joelinton is also still unavailable for the Magpies.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Pope; Trippier, Thiaw, Burn, Hall; Guimaraes, Tonali, Ramsey; Murphy, Wissa, Barnes

Unavailable: Schar (Injured), Krafth (Injured), Livramento (Injured), Joelinton (Injured), Gordon (Injured)

Questionable:

Arsenal vs Newcastle prediction

Newcastle, at their best, are a brilliantly intense and aggressive side - and one that have given Arsenal some really tough times in recent years. They may well rediscover that fighting spirit on the big stage and Arsenal can't be trusted to be fluent against anyone at the moment, even with the visitors' form, albeit the hosts should finally grind out an important victory in their horror month of April on Saturday evening.
