- Peter Wright was brushed aside by Michael van Gerwen in Rotterdam on Wednesday night, suffering a 7-1 defeat. Snakebite only just avoided a whitewash as Van Gerwen missed a dart at a double to win 7-0.
- It was without doubt Wright’s poorest performance of the campaign; his average was in the 80’s throughout the match and his average for his first nine darts was a mere 87.29.
- Wright is now without a win in his last three matches though is still only a point behind fourth-placed James Wade in the league table.
GERWYN PRICE
- Gerwyn Price rued missed attempts at the outer ring during his 7-5 defeat against Michael Smith on night eight of the 2019 Premier League in what was Price’s third consecutive loss in the tournament.
- The Welshman missed five darts at doubles to win the opening leg of the match which he subsequently lost, then with the score at 6-5 to Smith he missed two chances to salvage a point before his opponent took out a 90 finish on the bull to seal the victory.
- Price is now seventh in the league table but only two points outside the play-off places.
THE PREDICTION
Although neither player is far from the play-off places, they will have to pick up their form if they are to maintain a challenge for the top four. Both players have won only twice from their opening eight matches and are without a win in three matches so a two-point haul from this game is much needed. Peter Wright has a very good head-to-head record against Price with 12 wins from their previous 15 encounters, though Price did win their last meeting and they shared a 6-6 draw in the 2018 Premier League. It’s very tough to pick a winner due to their recent erratic displays and it would be no surprise if this match ended in a draw.
