THE TEAM NEWS

WASHINGTON NATIONALS

  • The Nationals undoubtedly are a rising club now. Washington have gone 3-2 in their last five games and have won seven of their last ten. They have scored at least four runs in each win, and at least five in five of those outings. Their offense has been clicking of late and the stats certainly back that up.
  • Anthony Rendon has comfortably been Washington’s best player during the 2019 season as he currently leads the team in most offensive categories such as average (.316), OPS (1.014), HR (20) and RBI (65). When it comes to injuries, the Nats currently have several pitchers sidelined such as Max Scherzer, Jeremy Hellickson, Jonny Venters and Justin Miller.
  • Patrick Corbin will take the ball for the Nats in this one. A solid yet unspectacular pitcher for the Nats this season, Corbin is enjoying a fine 2019 campaign with a 7-5 record, a 3.39 ERA, 139 strikeouts and a stellar 1.12 WHIP over 119.1 innings (19 starts).

ATLANTA BRAVES

  • The Braves dropped the first game of this series and are currently riding a three-game losing streak; notably, they have allowed at least 13 runs in two of those losses. The three-game losing skid comes right after a five-game winning run, so the Braves have gone 2-3 in their last five, but 6-4 in their last ten games.
  • Keep an eye on Ronald Acuña Jr. (.865 OPS), who recently saw a ten-game hitting streak come to an end on Wednesday, but Freddie Freeman remains the heart and soul of the team – the veteran first baseman currently leads the Braves in most offensive categories such as OPS (.953), slugging (.573), HR (25) and RBI (74).
  • Julio Teheran will get the starting nod here for Atlanta after his start was pushed one day. The 28-year-old Colombian hurler has made 20 starts so far this season with a 5-6 record, a 3.71 ERA, 97 strikeouts and a 1.32 WHIP across 106.2 innings pitched.

THE PREDICTION

The Nationals currently lead the season series 4-2, and they are one of the hottest teams in the National League at the moment. They should continue their winning run – while extending Atlanta’s woes – with another win here.
