England made light work of Sri Lanka in the three previous T20i matches between the two nations as the hosts cemented their position as the current world number one in the format. Things should be a bit tougher for them in this upcoming ODI series though when considering England’s previous struggles in the format. However, confidence is high among the English camp and they are facing weak opposition with a bowling attack who have not been able to tie down what is a stacked England batting unit.
Back in the squad for these ODIs, Joe Root will be looking forward to getting his teeth into Sri Lanka’s bowlers after having to sit and watch the likes of Jos Buttler and Harry Brook have all the fun in the T20i games. Root’s style of play makes him still one of the best 50-over batters in the world and getting him out could prove a nightmare for the visitors. Back a good score to be put up by Root in an eventual England win at Chester-le-Street.
