Pakistan are coming off the back of an excellent run in white-ball cricket, winning a T20i series against Sri Lanka and a tri-nation ODI series against both the Sri Lankans and England. Now the hosts look to carry their good form into the red-ball game and this important two-match series, which forms part of the World Test Championship.
Sri Lanka haven’t had much success against Pakistan down the years in red-ball cricket and are yet to win a Test match this year, having lost series to both India and the West Indies. Whilst Pakistan are always vulnerable to an upset when not at the top of their game, you would expect them to control much of this contest at home.
For Pakistan, this series has to represent a turning point. They’ve struggled in Test cricket for too long, and a winnable two-match series at home such as this needs to be taken advantage of. Back them to start with a victory.
