Norbert Novenyi Jr.: Wrestling standout looking to score his fourth successive first round finish
Son of heavyweight Olympic wrestling champion, Norbert Novenyi, Norbert Novenyi Jr. (10-1) makes his Contender Series debut with high expectations. A professional since 2018, “Magic’s” sole loss came against PFL and Bellator standout, Dalton Rosa. The London Shootfighters prospect has finished all but one of his ten wins inside the distance, with his three most recent victories all coming by way of first round stoppage. With a wrestling base, Novenyi Jr. boasts brutal GNP and excellent submissions, but is also a solid striker with thudding power.
Theo Haig: Can the American find redemption after a rough loss in his first Contender Series showing?
Theo Haig (7-1) did not enjoy his first appearance on the Contender Series, losing by way of first round hammer fists to Cezary Oleksiejzuk last year. However, the American has rebounded with an impressive submission victory over Lance Wright to earn a second shot at the big time. A submission whiz who has a 100% finish rate and has scored all seven of his victories by way of tap out, Haig’s record looks impressive on paper but he’s fought pretty dismal levels of competition to date.

Haig’s first trip to the Apex ended in a brutal stoppage defeat and that status quo looks set to repeat itself here.
Haig does his best work on the ground, but Novenyi Jr. looks to have an edge when it comes to the grappling. He’s a superb wrestler with a proven ability to finish fights when they hit the floor, and while the same could be said about Haig, his strength of schedule pales in comparison to “Magic’s.” The Hungarian put together a solid resume in Bellator, while Haig’s best victories came over fairly middling competition in LFA.
The American does have a size advantage here, but outside of that, I think that Novenyi Jr. has him beat in just about every regard. I envision this one playing out fairly similarly to Haig’s last fight on the Contender Series, with Novenyi Jr. either stinging the American on the feet or punishing a bad shot to eventually find a finish on the floor. He’s pretty good off his back too, meaning that he could conceivably find a submission even if Haig does manage to get him down.
Accordingly, the pick is Novenyi Jr. by stoppage.
