NORWAY

  • Norway secured a second consecutive win with a dominant 7-1 victory over Italy on Saturday afternoon to leave them in sixth place in Group B with a total of six points.

  • Norway had seven different scorers against Italy with Alexander Reichenberg opening the scoring in the first period and the remaining six goals were all scored in the third period.

  • Norway have been eliminated from qualification from the quarter-finals but the victory over Italy on Saturday ensured that they will not be relegated to a lower division next year.

LATVIA

  • Latvia’s hope of qualifying for the World Championship quarter-finals were dashed as they lost their fourth overall group game 5-4 to third-placed Sweden on Monday.

  • Latvia’s Roberts Bukarts scored this third goal of the game in the third period to tie the game 4-4 but Sweden’s Dennis Rasmussen scored in the final minute to inflict a second-straight loss on Latvia.

  • 22-year-old forward Rūdolfs Balcers has been the top performer for Latvia in the World Championships with six assists and one goal from the opening six Group B fixtures.

THE PREDICTION

Norway and Latvia are unable to qualify for the quarter-finals as they have both collected six points in Group B with their two victories both coming against Italy and Austria who occupy the bottom two places in the group. Norway have conceded 29 goals in the competition which is ten more than their opponents, so expect Latvia to capitalise and record a second straight win.
