THE TEAM NEWS
CZECH REPUBLIC
- Czech Republic wrapped up their impressive round robin campaign in the 2019 IIHF World Championships with their sixth win of the competition as they narrowly defeated Switzerland.
- The Czechs made it four wins in a row with the 5-4 victory with that result seeing them end the group stage in second place in Group B and will hope their good form can carry over to the knockout phase.
- There are no injury issues for the Czechs who will believe their goalscoring prowess can take them forward in the tournament after they scored the second-highest number of goals in the group stage with 39.
GERMANY
- Germany defeated Finland with a solid performance in their final Group A match as they finished in third place with five wins and two losses (one in overtime) from their seven fixtures.
- The Germans beat Finland 4-2 having fought back from 1-2 down in the second period with two goals in the third period sealing the win that ensured that Germany did not finish as the lowest-ranked qualifiers in Group A for the quarter-finals.
- Germany are the only side that progressed to the quarter-finals that failed to have a positive goal difference with their biggest challenge likely to be their inability to consistently score goals.
THE PREDICTION
This looks like a very well-matched contest but the Czech Republic head into this match in the better form. The Czechs only tasted defeat in one of their group matches and that was against unbeaten Russia. Germany snapped a two-match losing streak by defeating Finland and they will need to replicate that level of performance if they are to progress to the last-four but the Czechs should have too much for them.
