The American's standout statistic was the 74% of points she won on her second serve, although she was also clinical with her break-point opportunities, winning five of the seven chances she was presented on her opponent's serve.
She now faces compatriot Jessica Pegula, who will be a substantial step-up in quality. Pegula, the current world number three, eased past Anca Todoni 6-2, 6-4 on her return to Roland Garros after an injury-enforced absence last year.
