Angers Preview: Angers battling

Following their promotion back to the top-flight last season, Angers have been generally steady and competitive throughout the campaign but they do just about remain involved in the Ligue 1 relegation battle, sitting six points above the bottom three ahead of this weekend.

The home team did head into the March international break, though, on the back of three successive defeats with defeats to Toulouse, Monaco and Stade Brest by an aggregate score of eight goals to nil in those three games.

Rennes Preview: Rennes’ run

In November, former Argentina manager Jorge Sampaoli took charge of Stade Rennais and they have been much-improved in the last couple of months following another fairly heavy month of spending in the winter transfer window.

However, Rennes have since declined again as they headed into the aforementioned international break on the back of back-to-back defeats with a 4-1 loss at home to Paris Saint-Germain before a 1-0 loss away from home at Lens.

Angers Team News: Abdelli suspended

Angers will be without Himad Abdelli for this weekend as he is unavailable due to suspension. They also have a few injury concerns, too, with key players such as Cedric Hountondji and Emmanuel Biumla both being doubtful.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Fofana; Arcus, Bamba, Lefort, Hanin; Belkelba, Belkhdim; Ferhat, Niane, Allevinah; Lepaul

Unavailable: Abdelli (Suspended), Cherif (Injured)

Questionable: Hountondji (Injured), Biumla (Injured)

Rennes Team News: A few issues

Alidu Seidu sustained an ACL injury in Jorge Sampaoli’s first game in charge of Rennes and he remains unavailable for the visitors. They also have key injury doubts in attack such as Carlos Andres Gomez and Ludovic Blas.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Samba; Jacquet, Rouault, Faye; Assignon, James, Cisse, Matusiwa, Truffert; Meite, Kalimuendo

Unavailable: Seidu (Injured)

Questionable: Carlos Andres Gomez (Injured), Blas (Injured)

Angers vs Rennes Prediction

Angers have been representative of the style of football that has been prevailing in the French top-flight in recent seasons with very few goals and attacking intent generally. They take on a Rennes side that do intend to play with the intensity and aggression that is the goal of Jorge Sampaoli. Angers lack goals and are drifting back down the table, whilst Rennes will be confident of getting themselves back on the winning track.

Angers vs Rennes Tip: Double chance – Rennes to win or draw
