Alexander Zverev vs Learner Tien prediction

Learner Tien booked a spot in his maiden Grand Slam quarter final as the young American once again upset Daniil Medvedev Down Under.

The 20-year-old shot to stardom 12 months ago as a teenage talent who secured the biggest win of his career over the former world number one and three-time runner-up at Melbourne Park.

That second-round clash proved to be an epic that was decided in a fifth-set tie break, but this time around the 25th seed was irrepressible as he dismantled the Russian to roar to a 6-4 6-0 6-3 success.

Next up, the American takes on world number three Alexander Zverev who produced his best display yet in a 6-2 6-4 6-4 victory over Francisco Cerundolo.

The German is aiming to return to the final Sunday after finishing as runner-up to Jannik Sinner in 2025 and he certainly appears to be building momentum as the tournament develops.

The head-to-head is finely poised at 1-1 with Zverev comfortably triumphing in three on clay at last season’s Roland-Garros, while Tien again showed his hardcourt prowess with a straight-sets win in Acapulco.

Zverev’s first serve has been a seriously potent weapon in the draw so far and that may well be the key against Tien.

The world number 29 may have the movement and ability to turn defence into attack off both flanks in the blink of an eye, but Sascha is so strong from the baseline that it will take a pinch of variety to unsettle the German here.

Tien has the capability and has shown he has the talent and taste for an upset, but it may be more a case of him taking a set rather than stopping Zverev on his mission to make right what he feel is unfinished business when it comes to major finals.
