Neil Magny: "The Haitian Sensation" looks to push his win streak to three and upset the oddsmakers once again

A UFC competitor for more than a decade, Neil Magny (31-13) continues to defy the odds as he prepares to make his thirty seventh walk to the cage on Saturday night. "The Haitian Sensation" enters this contest riding the momentum of stoppage victories over Jake Matthews and Elizeu Zaleski, surviving early trouble to score a late finish in trademark Magny fashion. The craftiest of veterans, Magny's approach is well known by now; the American survives to find a late finish after his opponents get tired whaling on him. However, while it remains one of MMA's worst kept secrets, it's the gift that keeps on giving; every time Magny appears to be on his way out, he rolls back the years to fraud check a prospect and begins the cycle anew.

Yaroslav Amosov: The former Bellator champion makes his UFC debut looking to make a splash

The former Bellator welterweight kingpin, Ukrainian, Yaroslav Amosov (28-1), temporarily stepped away from fighting to fight for his country after the Russian invasion in 2022. While "Dynamo" would unify the division against Logan Storley, his title run would come to a shocking end shortly after. Amosov coughed up his belt and his undefeated record to Jason Jackson in a shocking upset at Bellator 301, losing by third round knockout in his final appearance with the promotion. Amosov has since found fights difficult to come by, beating UFC veteran Curtis Millender by first round submission at CFFC in March for his first victory since February 2023.

Neil Magny vs Yaroslav Amosov prediction

While the odds are heavily in Amosov's favour, this fight could conceivably be much closer than it appears on paper.

Elite level Bellator fighters have had an exceedingly rough run of things when making the jump to the UFC; just ask Patchy Mix, Patricio Pitbull, or Aaron Pico. Even by Bellator standards, Jason Jackson is far from elite and he proved more than capable of faceplanting the Ukrainian with a nasty KO. Amosov has only beaten Curtis Millender since; hardly the sort of competition that indicates he's about to run roughshod through the best welterweight division the sport has to offer.

While Magny is exceedingly unlikely to score a highlight reel stoppage, he's arguably fought and beaten much better levels of competition throughout his career. Amosov's best wins are over the likes of Logan Storley, Douglas Lima, and Roberto Soldic; while Magny would likely enter a contest against any of those names as an underdog, it's not inconceivable that he could beat them either.

Magny has made a career out of weathering early damage to come back and score late finishes over flagging opponents, leveraging his superb cardio and large frame to wear on fighters until they have nothing left to offer back. He's also riding the momentum of a two fight finish streak where he closed as the underdog and typically only loses to physical powerhouses who are able to blitz and finish him; not exactly a description the fits the mold of Amosov's decision heavy style.

As such, Magny is a live dog in this one. While Amosov's grappling pedigree means that he's likely to dominate the American to a decision on paper, "The Haitian Sensation's history of scoring unlikely victories in the face of overwhelming odds and the Ukrainian's lack of recent high level competition experience means that he's definitely worth taking a punt on here.

Sound the alarm bells. The pick is for Magny to spoil the party once again.

Prediction: Neil Magny to win
