Melissa Mullins: "No Mess" attempts to push her UFC record above .500 in front of a home crowd

Arriving in the promotion with an undefeated record of 4-0, Melissa Mullins (7-2) has posted a record of 2-2 since joining the UFC back in 2023. A powerful striker with notably iffy defense, the 34 year old English fighter has alternated wins and losses in that time, from the highs of a stoppage over Klaudia Sygula to the lows of a Nora Cornolle beatdown. She was last seen in action against Darya Zhelznyakova, dropping a decisive decision in a rematch where she earned the victory first time around. She’s also been active on the jiu-jitsu scene, competing three times on ADCC last September.

Luana Carolina: "Dread" looks for a happier outcome on her latest trip to London

Fresh off a decision loss to Michelle Montague that snapped a three fight win streak, it’s hard to believe that Luana Carolina (11-5) has been with the promotion since 2018. Best known for coming out on the wrong end of a Molly McCann spinning elbow in her last appearance in London, “Dread” is an awkward Muay Thai striker with an excellent clinch game. Owner of a 6-4 UFC record, the 32 year old Brazilian also has above average takedown defense, even though this wasn’t on display in her most recent match up.

Melissa Mullins vs Luana Carolina prediction

Mullins tends to do extremely well when she’s the hammer; exceedingly less so when she’s the nail. She’s got powerful striking for the weight class and throws at a decent clip, but she’s proven remarkably easy to hit clean throughout her promotional tenure. She got absolutely battered by Nora Cornolle en route to a TKO defeat and Darya Zheleznyakova also pieced her up last time out.

Carolina may have been soundly out grappled in her most recent showing, but Mullins doesn’t present anything close to the same takedown threat as Michelle Montague. The Brazilian lands at higher rate than Mullins, absorbs less damage, and also has the option of dragging matters into the clinch; an area where she excels with spiteful elbows and knees in close. She's got a significant edge when it comes to overall experience, has fought better levels of competition, and even enters this match up with a slight reach advantage.

This is is unlikely to set the world on fire in any case. Carolina takes advantage of Mullins' subpar defense to land more damage across three rounds, earning an uneventful decision and starting the night off on a sour note for the English crowd.

Prediction: Luana Carolina to win by decision
