Kurtis Campbell: Unbeaten Muay Thai specialist making his octagon debut in front of home crowd
Undefeated Scouse prospect Kurtis Campbell (8-0) earned his UFC contract with a first-round knockout on DWCS last September, showing power that complemented an already impressive grappling game. Campbell has an amateur record in Muay Thai and is at his best in the clinch, where his sweeps, trips, and ground-and-pound are highly effective. His five-round decision over Matheus Lima showcased excellent control and relentless top pressure. Campbell's striking volume on the feet isn't particularly high, but he uses kicks to the body and head well and is light on his feet.
Danny Silva: Durable counterpuncher looking to take someone's 0
Danny Silva (10-2) is 2-1 in the UFC, with split decision wins over Josh Culibao and Lucas Almeida before losing a unanimous decision to Kevin Vallejos. That loss has actually aged really well, Silva showed he couldn't be overwhelmed against an insanely dangerous opponent, maintaining his composure throughout despite being outworked. Silva fights behind a Philly shell and has a boxing-heavy counter-punching approach, rolling with shots well. His boxing defence is sharp and he's at his best working in the pocket. However, Silva's fights tend to be close - both his wins came by split decision, and he carries a good chin but limited power. He switches stances and seems to only throw calf kicks from orthodox but leaves his body wide open, particularly to kicks.
Kurtis Campbell vs Danny Silva prediction
Silva's boxing is the more polished skill on display here, and Campbell will have to avoid being drawn into extended pocket exchanges where the American is most comfortable. Silva rolls with punches well, counters nicely, and has shown the durability to survive Kevin Vallejos' power.
Campbell's path to victory doesn't run through the boxing. His Muay Thai clinch work and sweeps are the key weapons in this matchup, as well as that kick to the body. When Silva enters with flurries, Campbell can look to catch him and tie up in the Thai clinch, where his trips should take over. Once on the ground, Campbell's control and ground-and-pound are a level above Silva's, and it would be unwise for Silva to initiate takedowns given Campbell's grappling advantage.
Silva's Philly shell can leave his body wide open, something Campbell can capitalise on from range with his Muay Thai arsenal. Body kicks will be a smart scoring weapon throughout, and Silva's tendency to switch to orthodox to throw his calf kicks gives Campbell a tell to read and check. Silva doesn't carry the power to deter Campbell from pressing forward, and as long as the Scouser keeps exchanges short and funnels the fight into his clinch work, his grappling should make the difference across three rounds.
Prediction: Kurtis Campbell to win by decision
