ZIZOU BERGS VS MAXIMILIAN MARTERER PREDICTION
World number 101 Maximilian Marterer and number 104 Zizou Bergs both upset their higher-ranked opponents on Sunday to make for an unlikely first encounter. 24-year-old Bergs did especially well to come back from a set down against 24th seed Alejandro Tabilo, who stunned Novak Djokovic at the Italian Open earlier this month, and the Belgian will enjoy strong support as a popular underdog here.
28-year-old Marterer conceded just five games to Jordan Thompson on Sunday to claim his first tour-level win of the season, snapping a 10-match losing streak that stretches back to a rare deep run at the European Open, where he lost to eventual champion Alexander Bublik in the semi-finals.
Keep this one far from any promising accumulators but otherwise consider this a decent candidate for five sets between a qualifier on momentum and Marterer’s better clay sensibilities.
