THE PREDICTION
World number 57 Lin Zhu is coming off a huge disappointment after an excellent defence of her 2022 Hua Hin title was ended in three sets by Diana Shnaider last weekend. The 30-year-old pulled out of the Abu Dhabi Open singles this week following the result but she still played doubles, losing in the first round, to suggest she remains fit to play this wide open first tour-level encounter with Varvara Gracheva. World number 46 Gracheva reached the quarter-finals of the Auckland Classic at the start of the season but she has struggled to make a dent on tournaments since, although her defeat to Dayana Yastremska at the Australian Open aged well. This is a tough call given Zhu’s most recent match but back the Chinese to earn at least a set to leave the result up to chance.
