THE PREDICTION

This promises to be a thrilling encounter between world number 13 Grigor Dimitrov, through to his second final on tour this season after winning the Brisbane 500 last month, and number 21 Ugo Humbert, through to a second-successive final in his native France. 25-year-old Humbert ended last season as champion on his home court at the Metz Open and he beat defending Open 13 champion Hubert Hurkacz in straight sets on Saturday to look a serious threat to second seed Dimitrov, who just squeaked past Karen Khachanov from a set down to maintain an excellent campaign of his own. Dimitrov leads their head-to-head record 2-0 but their previous encounter in France went to three sets in Paris way back in 2019 and Humbert has vastly improved since.

The Marseille crowd will do their utmost to pull their rising star over the precipice here but Dimitrov’s newfound resolve has been nothing short of remarkable over the past eight or so months. Each of Dimitrov’s three matches have seen at least a tiebreak this week so back the second seed to earn at least a set and add a tiebreak to leave the result up to chance.

TIP: GRIGOR DIMITROV TO WIN A SET (AND OVER 0.5 TIEBREAKS)
