22-year-old Alexander Shevchenko is through to his maiden ATP tour final after an assured straight-sets victory over Pierre-Hugues Herbert and he will break inside the top 50 on tour in time for 2024 after an excellent breakthrough season. The Russian has improved across surfaces since bursting onto the scene at the Madrid Masters and his career-best victory over world number 15 Karen Khachanov on Thursday is proof that he can be very competitive here. This looks like 25-year-old Ugo Humbert’s match to lose, though, with the Moselle Open crowd firmly behind the new French number one. Humbert has fought valiantly to claw himself back inside the top 30 following a horror show of a campaign in 2022 and he can set a career-high ATP world ranking of 20th if he can get past Shevchenko to win his fourth ATP title in his first final since winning the 2021 European Open.
