World number 61 Nuno Borges beat Matteo Berrettini to the Phoenix Challenger title last weekend, ousting a talented field to continue his excellent recent form. The 27-year-old ended last season with a Challenger title in his hometown of Maia in Portugal but he made waves worldwide by upsetting both Alejandro Davidovich Fokina and 13th seed Grigor Dimitrov en-route to the round of 16 at the Australian Open in January, before an impressive four-set exit to eventual runner-up Daniil Medvedev. This looks a really tough opener, though, against qualifier Thiago Seyboth Wild as the Brazilian was drafted in late to replace the absent Jordan Thompson. World number 76 Seyboth Wild stunned Karen Khachanov in straight sets at Indian Wells two weeks ago to make the third round at a Masters event for the first time but he lost just as quickly to Fabian Marozsan there to make this a really tough call.
