This should be a fascinating and entertaining first round clash between world number 24 Dan Evans and number 107 Thanasi Kokkinakis. 27-year-old Kokkinakis beat the Brit in their only previous encounter at the Davis Cup way back in 2015, the same year Evans and Team GB went on to lift the trophy, but Evans is much improved since then. 32-year-old Evans has by far the better recent form on clay, a surface that neither player particularly enjoys, and recent wins over the likes of Karen Khachanov and Francisco Cerundolo at the Barcelona Open suggests he can find ways to make his tall opponent suffer on Sunday. 27-year-old Kokkinakis is capable of tennis far better than his current deflated ranking suggests but one win at tour level on clay since the start of the swings says Evans can come through this match the outright winner, probably in four sets.
