THE PREDICTION

33-year-old Sorana Cirstea is getting ever-closer to an incredible feat, breaking her career-high WTA world ranking of 21st set back in 2013, and a couple of wins at the Qatar Masters should do the trick. The Romanian enjoyed an excellent run to the quarter-finals of the Abu Dhabi Open this week, coming back from a set down to oust Caroline Garcia and stunning Maria Sakkari, before an oddly one-sided exit to Daria Kasatkina but she looks well capable of bouncing back against Sloane Stephens, who has not played in three weeks. Former number three Stephens, however, actually beat Kasatkina from a set down to reach the third round of the Australian Open last month but she was just as quickly ousted in three by Anna Kalinskaya in a match she should have won.

The ever-inexplicable American is capable of anything from blasting through in two to crashing out of the first round, so back in-form Cirstea to earn at least a set as the more dependable of the two to leave the victor up to chance.
