Shuai Zhang has, remarkably, set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 22nd this week at 33 years old after an excellent renaissance season last year. The popular Chinese star made two tour finals last season, winning one of them for her third career title at the Lyon Open, but she was a consistent threat to her opponents throughout the season with stunning victories over the likes of Caroline Garcia, Naomi Osaka, Anett Kontaveit and an upset over Elena Rybakina in the second round here. Former world number 56 Patricia Tig missed over a year from tour before making her return on the ITF circuit last summer and this looks too steep a climb up in only her second tour-level match since Wimbledon in 2021. Shuai Zhang has not started 2023 in great shape but back her to win this mis-match in straight sets.
