THE PREDICTION

This should be a thrilling clash between Argentina’s top two players in world number 22 Francisco Cerundolo and number 30 Sebastian Baez, both of whom came through tough three-setters on Friday. 25-year-old Cerundolo came back from a set down to oust Dusan Lajovic away from the maelstrom on centre court, where 23-year-old Baez overcame Thiago Monteiro in three to start the mass exodus of home players in Rio. Cerundolo brought some pretty hopeless form into the Rio Open but he looks to be turning a corner just in time to make this a real contest with Baez, who won three ATP titles last season but remains the Argentine number two due to his opponent’s better results at Grand Slams. Cerundolo beat Baez to win his first title at the Bastad Open in 2022, their only tour-level meeting to date, but Baez looks the slightest favourite on recent form. Back the younger Argentine to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.

TIP: SEBASTIAN BAEZ TO WIN A SET
