THE PREDICTION

32-year-old Pierre-Hugues Herbert set a career-high ATP world ranking of 36th in 2019 but he has struggled with fitness in form for the majority of the past two seasons. After spending all of 2023 working his way back on the Challenger tour the Frenchman will be ecstatic to have claimed a first tour-level win since mid-2022, ousting young compatriot Arthur Cazaux on Sunday. Herbert will be backed to the hilt as a popular home underdog here in Metz but he faces the highest seed in the draw in Alex de Minaur, who will be desperate to end his season on a high after enjoying his best year yet on tour. The 24-year-old has guaranteed himself a high seed at the Australian Open next January, currently one off his career-high at world number 12, and his run to the quarter-finals in Paris last week suggests he can hit the ground running here. Back De Minaur to win in straight sets.

BETTING TIP: ALEX DE MINAUR TO WIN 2-0.
