THE PREDICTION

28-year-old Elise Mertens has moved back up to world number 25 this week after a strong start to her season. The Belgian ended last year as the Jasmin Open champion and she started 2024 by finishing runner-up to Emma Navarro in Hobart to maintain her dependable streak at WTA 250 level, although it has been some time since she has made a significant dent on a Masters tournament. World number 65 Peyton Stearns reached the round of 16 at a Grand Slam for the first time at the US Open last summer but she has failed to win a tour-level match since, bringing a seven-match losing streak into Doha. The 22-year-old has been getting closer in recent weeks, and it should not be long before she bounces back, but take Mertens to avoid an upset with victory here.

TIP: ELISE MERTENS TO WIN
