World number 37 Petra Martic struggled to compete as Croatian number one at the United Cup in defeats to top 10 stars Caroline Garcia and Maria Sakkari but the 31-year-old can count Karolina Pliskova and Paula Badosa amongst her wins late last season. Martic won the second WTA title of her career at the Lausanne Ladies Open on her favoured clay but when on song the Croat can be a great disruptor on all surfaces, with last season’s run to the round of 16 at Wimbledon proof of that. World number 83 Viktorija Golubic is better than her current ranking suggests but the Swiss is certainly in a fairly lengthy poor run of form, at least in terms of consistency. A first tour-level meeting between the two is likelier to see three sets than two but back Martic to win at least one of the them here to avoid picking a winner.
