Former world number two Petra Kvitova has quietly gone about a vast improvement on her 2022 form with back-to-back straight-set victories over Camila Giorgi and most recently the Dubai Open top seed Aryna Sabalenka. The current world number 25 won her most recent of 28 ATP titles at the Qatar Open around this time last season and she was a winner here in 2013 as well as finishing runner-up as recently as 2019. However, her opponent has taken out even more impressive scalps in two recent Grand Slam champions, with Jelena Ostapenko ousting Sofia Kenin in straight sets on Tuesday and then coming back from a set down to beat Iga Swiatek in excellent fashion.
