24-year-old Pavel Kotov will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 67th after reaching the semi-finals of the Sofia Open at Hungarian number one Marton Fucsovics’ expense in straight sets. The Russian is one match away from making it back-to-back finals on tour after making his first ever in Stockholm late last month, where he took the first set from Gael Monfils before defeat, but second seed Adrian Mannarino is a seriously tough draw at this level. The world number 25 is one win away from a fourth ATP 250 final this season and he has won two of them in Newport and Astana, finishing runner-up to Christopher Eubanks in his first in Mallorca. 35-year-old Mannarino came back from a set down to oust Sebastian Ofner on Thursday, suggesting there is room for an upset in this first meeting with Kotov, but the Frenchman should have enough to edge through in what is proving to be his best season yet. Back Mannarino to earn at least a set as the likelier of two very capable finalists.
