THE PREDICTION
Former world number two Paula Badosa came back from a set down to beat 21st seed Ema Navarro on Thursday, backing-up an excellent opener over rising star Mirra Andreeva. The 26-year-old has won back-to-back matches for only the second times this season in what has been, so far, another year plagued by injury setbacks, but she reached the quarter-finals here last season in a rare spell of dependable fitness and this is suddenly an intriguing opportunity against Diana Shnaider in their third meeting this season.
20-year-old Shnaider will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 51st after blasting past fellow Russian Liudmila Samsonova on Thursday and she beat Badosa, via a retirement, en-route to her maiden WTA title at the Hua Hin Championships in late January. Badosa returned the favour on clay at the Stuttgart Open last month, though, to take a 2-1 lead in their head-to-head after claiming their first encounter at the Charleston Open, also on clay, last season. Shnaider is improving everywhere all of the time but back Badosa, if she can stay fit, to find a way through on conditions that suit her best.
