THE PREDICTION
World number one Novak Djokovic will not be too hard on himself after dropping a set to Aleksandar Vukic in his opening win on Saturday. The 36-year-old had not played since that fateful semi-final defeat to eventual champion Jannik Sinner at the Australian Open in January and he has been handed a kind fixture here to improve his game after an early scare. 20-year-old Luca Nardi can enjoy the occasion here, though, after coming through qualifying as a double lucky loser – leapfrogging the first round before a brilliant three-set upset over Zhizhen Zhang on Saturday. The Italian will look to Vukic’s excellent efforts against the five-time Indian Wells champion but Djokovic, who has not looked himself so far this season, can be backed to win in straight sets even at 80%.
