THE PREDICTION
Former world number one Naomi Osaka beat Tamara Korpatsch in her first match back from maternity leave at the Brisbane International but she has since lost three matches on the spin, including next opponent Caroline Garcia at the Australian Open. Having to face Garcia twice, Karolina Pliskova and Danielle Collins, all former top 10s, in your first month back from a long absence is a remarkable baptism of fire but the 26-year-old is clearly eager to embrace the challenge on court and she should be better for it in this quick rematch. Former world number four Garcia has struggled to find anything like her best tennis practically ever since winning the WTA Finals in late 2022 but she did so in spades against Osaka last month.
Osaka’s vengeful streak should make this a much closer contest but her recent results suggest backing Garcia to earn at least a set is the most cautious way to avoid a result here. Leave this potential thriller out of an accumulator.
TIP: CAROLINE GARCIA TO WIN A SET
