THE PREDICTION

16-year-old Mirra Andreeva will break inside the top 40 on tour for the first time after an incredible display of her ruthless brand of tennis ousted her idol, an out-of-sorts Ons Jabeur, in straight sets on Wednesday. The Russian conceded just two games to Jabeur to build on a strong opener over Bernarda Pera on Monday and she looks the clear favourite to reach the round of 16 from this kind fixture with Diane Parry, whom she beat comfortably in the second round at Roland-Garros last summer.

21-year-old Parry will set a new career-high WTA world ranking of around 57th after an excellent three-set upset over Xinyu Wang on Sunday was backed up by a straight-sets result over Kamilla Rakhimova but the Frenchwoman, who has impressed consistently at Grand Slams, looks out of her depth here. The Melbourne crowd will back Andreeva to the hilt as tennis’ newest rising star and her no-nonsense, purposeful game looks set to take her through to a first Grand Slam quarter-final this fortnight. Back Andreeva to win in straight sets.

TIP: MIRRA ANDREEVA TO WIN 2-0
