THE PREDICTION
There was a period around this time last year when it felt like Andrey Rublev and Marton Fucsovics were in a perpetual state of playing each other. It was a time-loop that heavily favoured the Russian until Fucsovics finally beat him in a vengeful five-setter in the round of 16 at Wimbledon last summer. The pair were drawn to face each other a staggering five times last season and played four, with Fucsovics pulling out of their Qatar Open quarter-final just a week after losing to the Russian here in the Rotterdam Open final. That was the last title won by world number seven Rublev, whose power over ATP 500 events looks to have dwindled since. The 24-year-old is yet to drop a set this week but world number 38 Fucsovics will be his toughest for yet and likely fully-charged for a another shot at revenge here after two impressive wins over Filip Krajinovic and in-form Tallon Griekspoor.
With Rublev not quite at his best level right now this could go either way. The sensible call is to take the defending champion to win at least a set as the likelier winner but taking Fucsovics to win outright is a really tempting upset to follow.
