THE PREDICTION

This looks a really intriguing clash on Wednesday between former world number two Casper Ruud, currently ranked 12th, and in-form Marcos Giron, who set a career-high ATP world ranking of 44th this week. 30-year-old Giron finished runner-up to Tommy Paul in three tight sets at the Dallas Open two weeks ago and he reached the semi-finals at Delray Beach before a competitive defeat to eventual champion Taylor Fritz. 25-year-old Ruud has not played since another early exit at the Australian Open last month and he comes in cold with an unhelpful bye to the round of the 16 as the fourth seed here. The Norwegian has all the tools he needs to excel on hardcourts as much as he does on clay but, perhaps like Dominic Thiem before him, there is still a ways to go before he figures out a rhythm that works consistently. Giron beat Ruud in straight sets en-route to the Tokyo Open semi-finals last October and he can be backed to earn at least a set here to leave the result of a potential upset up to chance.

TIP: MARCOS GIRON TO WIN A SET
