24-year-old Lucia Bronzetti moved within two places of her career-high WTA world ranking of 50th this week after an impressive campaign representing Italy at the United Cup two weeks ago, winning three of her five matches. Bronzetti finished runner-up to Irina-Camelia Begu in her first WTA tour final at the Palermo Ladies Open, on clay, last July but she has enjoyed some strong results on hardcourts at Challenger level in recent months. Former world number 27 Laura Siegemund won the Hobart International Women’s Doubles last week alongside fellow veteran Kirsten Flipkens and she enjoyed some good performances in the singles in victory over Tereza Martincova and a close defeat to Bernarda Pera. This first meeting between the two is one of the tougher to call on Tuesday but Siegemund has lost each of her last five first round matches at Grand Slams whilst Bronzetti won her debut here last season. Back the Italian to earn at least a set and leave the victor up to chance.
