World number three Coco Gauff came back from a set down to beat an impressive Clara Burel on Saturday but she should be better for an early scare here at Indian Wells. The 19-year-old fulfilled her destiny by winning the US Open as a teenager last summer, enjoying a sparkling purple patch on the late hardcourt swing that included titles at the Washington Open and a first Masters trophy in Cincinnati, but she laboured to the semi-finals of the Australian Open in January to suggest she is current struggling to find her ruthless best.
World number 53 Lucia Bronzetti beat Anhelina Kalinina in straight sets on Saturday to back-up a solid opener over in-form Magdalena Frech but this should be too steep of a step-up in quality.
