THE PREDICTION
19-year-old Luca Van Assche reached the third round of a Grand Slam for the first time with a huge upset over 25th seed Lorenzo Musetti, who has admittedly been in poor form, in a five-set comeback. The world number 79 has played 10 sets already this week after a similar comeback from 2-1 down to oust James Duckworth on Monday but he is young enough to bounce back in time for this biggest match of his young career. World number seven Stefanos Tsitsipas finished runner-up to Novak Djokovic here last season but that was a brief island amidst some poor form that has rarely improved for long over the past 18 or so months. The 25-year-old has twice dropped the first set so far in Melbourne, coming back to beat Zizou Bergs and then Jordan Thompson in four sets apiece, to suggest that he remains fallible despite flurries of brilliance that display the level he could one day return to on tour.
Tsitsipas should be winning this first encounter in straight sets but take the Greek to come through outright and add at least a tiebreak, with four seen already in their combined four matches so far in Melbourne.
