This looks a really tight call between two talented Czechs, meeting in the first round of a Grand Slam for the second time. World number 35 Marie Bouzkova overcame young Linda Noskova in three sets at this stage of the US Open in 2022 but both of their previous matches have seen tiebreaks in tight circumstances, with Bouzkova winning in the semi-finals of the Prague Open en-route to the title the month before. 19-year-old Noskova set a career-high WTA world ranking of 40th this time last season after finishing runner-up to Aryna Sabalenka at the Adelaide 500 and she impressed again at the start of 2024, beating Mirra Andreeva and Sorana Cirstea en-route to the semi-finals. 25-year-old Bouzkova has got off to a middling start so far, with this week’s defeat to Yulia Putintseva in Hobart an avoidable one, but back the elder Czech to earn at least a set as the likelier of two capable victors.
