THE PREDICTION

World number 15 Karen Khachanov beat Alex Bolt in straight sets to claim a first win since Roland-Garros, with an ultimately strong campaign seriously hampered by injuries this year. The 27-year-old reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open back in January and the quarter-finals at Roland-Garros to prove himself a serious threat when fit and if he can maintain that he looks set for the final at least. 28-year-old Mackenzie McDonald came into Zhuhai at a career-high ATP world ranking of 39th after enjoying a career-best season on tour, with a run to the quarter-finals of the Canada Masters this time last season seeing huge wins over Andrey Rublev and Milos Raonic. Khachanov has, however, won all three of their previous encounters in fairly convincing fashion but a tiebreak in all three matches leaves an excellent alternative to a full result. Back the Russian to earn at least a set and add at least a tiebreak to leave the victor up to chance.
