THE PREDICTION

19-year-old Jerry Shang will break inside the top 100 for the first time on tour despite losing to Zizou Bergs in qualifying on Tuesday. The up-and-coming teenager should be a serious force on this double-bounce to the second round as a lucky loser to face 29-year-old Stefanos Napolitano, who has seen both of his original fixtures cancelled so far after Matteo Berrettini pulled out of the first round and Ugo Humbert gave way for Shang. Napolitano beat his first lucky loser, J.J. Wolf, in straight sets on Thursday but this will be a much tougher test against Shang’s positive, energetic game. The Italian will be backed to the hilt as a severe home underdog in Rome, with the Pietrangeli crowd sure to empower him, but back Shang to have too much enthusiasm on house money to edge through.

TIP: JERRY SHANG TO WIN
