THE PREDICTION

17-year-old Joao Fonseca will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 240th after blasting past Lorenzo Sonego and Radu Albot to reach his second quarter-final on his debut season. The Brazilian inspired a new generation of tennis fans in his native Rio with a remarkable run to the last eight at the ATP 500 back in February and he has built back strong again this week to look a genuine contender for a maiden title in Bucharest.

World number 41 Alejandro Tabilo is the fourth seed this week and he looked solid in his straight-sets victory over Arthur Rinderknech on Wednesday, although he will have to cope with playing the villain against an exciting young talent. 26-year-old Tabilo is enjoying his best season yet on tour, winning a maiden ATP title in Auckland and finishing runner-up to Sebastian Baez at the Chile Open, but there is an undeniable momentum behind Fonseca. Take the Brazilian to earn at least a set to leave the result up to chance but this match is best kept away from an accumulator in any case.

TIP: JOAO FONSECA TO WIN A SET
